I am about to purchase my second skid steer. The first was a melro bobcat I think. I rebuilt the engine , sold it , and miss it dearly. The gas station down the road has an older Jon deer for sale. Asking 2500.00. Not sure of the year or how to find out. Tires look good. Guy says it runs well but brake does not work. I don't remember my old one having a brake. I would like to purchase this one but would like some help in making the decision. Any suggestions. The motor it set up a little different than the bobcat I had but looks the same. What should I look for when I test drive it? Is it a good buy. I'm pretty handy but with little children spare time is a minimum. Thank you for all help in advance. Matt. 610-441-6207

The brake could be a park brake.
If it is hydrostatic drive, you just reverse the direction of the steering levers to stop.
See how it starts and runs. Ensure it starts easily and doesn't blow excessive smoke at startup or when under load. Check for wear.
