I'm ashamed to admit how much time and money I've wasted on this machine, but sparing the ugly details I will ask my question. The pump seems ok b/c lifting is fine and quiet, but moving forward and reverse the screeching and humming sounds like something is going to come apart! I have replaced both charge filter and main filter and cleaned the screen as well, which had metal shavings in it. (that's what I said..oh no) :-( It appears as though a chain or sprocket may have been changed shortly before I bought it so I'm guessing maybe those were remnants of chain failure as the case has outward dents on the bottom where the old chain may have gouged the case. My question is- where can I find rebuild kits for these motors, and I'm wondering if possibly it's caused by worn bearings inside the motors and the rotating assemblies might be ok. I have had no luck finding gasket and o-ring sets for this machine. I've already spent twice what this is worth between a new motor, hoses, u-joints, universal plate attachment, etc. and will not spend over 2 grand for 2 new motors. I may have to just keep using this as it is. It's been this way since I got it 1200 hrs ago but prefer to fix it. (I'm very mechanically inclined and not afraid to tear into this job). It doesn't stop, skip or go slow when hot. Slowing down the engine seems to lessen the noise somewhat. Wouldn't pump cavitation show up as a fluid leak near the pump intake and be noisy when raising the bucket too?

The Cessna pumps and motors are naturally noisey and add to that noise the noise from the chain cases. The motors only have needle bearings on each end of the shaft. If it has lasted 1200 hrs with the noise it will continue to work. The motors are simple in that they only have a rotating group in them. If it will give you peace of mind then all you should need is a gasket since there is no seal on the chain case side of the motor. You could also be hearing so noise from the parking brake setup.

Thank you so much for the reply! Really. Now my mind is at ease after spending $1000 on a Kohler mini block last year, among so many other things. Man, have I learned a lot about skid steers over the past 16 months. I guess I'll just have to tolerate the noise while knowing it's normal. :)

If that machine is built like the bigger New Hollands be sure you take off the side covers on the machine (between the wheels) and fill them up with motor oil. Not sure but I think the chain oil also lubricates the bearings in the drive motors?
