Thanks in advance for your expertise and time. We got the main pump checked out at hydraulic shop. We re installed as it was losing lots of oil from previous owner running over something and dislocated it a bit. Now we have a growling sound when we try to move the left Handel for that side forward and reverse. Any suggestions appreciated what to check next? Sounds similar to a clutch not fully engaged on an ole non synchronized transmission in an ole truck. Thank for all the help!

Well. at this point I have more questions than answers. Not sure how one could run over something and dislocate the pump without seriously braking something. So may be more to that story than you got. Anyhow, do the wheels turn or try to turn when you move the handle? Here's some diagrams from parts book on Messicks.com for clarity and make sure we're on the same page.

Growling sound - some potentials:
- pumps area wouldn't seem very likely-bad bearing or spline that only makes noise under load??
- hyd motors - same thing as pumps
- parking brake - engaged or partially engaged and chatters when forced to move?
- gearbox - bad bearings or gears?
- chain drive - loose chain jumping?

Some information to help diagnose.
Checking out the chain drive and the parking brake control linkage are probably the easiest/first things to do.

You refer to "we", so I assume you are not working alone.
Considering how much "fun" this operation is, I am asking dumb questions ...
"(had the pump checked out)" , did this mean they took it apart & put it back together, or they bench tested it, ( pumped fluid through it, verified that it turned, the control levers operated & fixed any leaks)
by "Main pump" are you referring to right hand pump or left hand pump ( oriented with the operator sitting in the machine) ?
are you describing a sound like raking the gears shifting gears in a manual transmission, or perhaps the sound of a slipping clutch disk?

If the left hand pump was the one that you removed & re-installed, is there any chance that you might have failed to align/mesh the drive gears in the pump drive/engine flywheel housing?
Is the parking brake jammed or frozen/seized in an "applied" state?
Removing the side cover between the left side wheels and watching while helper moves the control might also might also provide a clue.
