Pretty sure if you have a diesel engine your machine is a 1845c and it is a cummins. I think the ether cold start was an option, you probably do not need it hooked up, especially if you can plug in the block heater in cold weather. I think my charging system light does come on when you key on then goes out after it starts, you may just have a burnt out bulb, you could hook a voltmeter to the battery, start the machine and check what it reads, it should read between around 13.5 to 14.6 if your alternator is working.
