Check out the new technologies Vovlo is working on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ183Dq2sts
Yes it looks pretty far out there, but who knows, might live to see the day. Can't see them being too common in the next 20 years.Wow, it appears they have been studying NASA's engineering for planet rovers.
The big issue will be the cost to bring it to market. You would need a lot of jobs that require that level of technology and tractive drives to justify the capitol investment.
History has shown that heavy construction has not been an industry that rapidly accepts new technology. However it is interesting to see what their engineering departments are anticipating as the future needs of the industry.
ya know , I have actually got to operate several different configuations of remotely controlled machines and if you are any good at video games it is not too bad , the hardest one was a skidsteer with no cameras and you stood a hundred feet away with a controller , the engine and pumps had been removed and was plumbed in with hoses , they had a guy that would keep the slack out the hoses so they didn't get in the wheels , this was used in cleaning out oil storage tanks where the fumes where very bad ----------- also operated a Takeuchi 440 volt electric mini excavator that was set up for concrete demo , it had no cameras ----------- operated a T 320 with remote and cameras and it was really cool , the problem I was having is when I turned it around and it was facing me then the travel controlls were backwards of what you would think is right , with some time on it I am sure I could have got the feelYes it looks pretty far out there, but who knows, might live to see the day. Still think it would be hard to run a machine when your not sitting in it.

Thats like flying an rc helicopter , its called nose in . It takes lots of practice, atleast the bobcat cant crash if you make a small mistake !ya know , I have actually got to operate several different configuations of remotely controlled machines and if you are any good at video games it is not too bad , the hardest one was a skidsteer with no cameras and you stood a hundred feet away with a controller , the engine and pumps had been removed and was plumbed in with hoses , they had a guy that would keep the slack out the hoses so they didn't get in the wheels , this was used in cleaning out oil storage tanks where the fumes where very bad ----------- also operated a Takeuchi 440 volt electric mini excavator that was set up for concrete demo , it had no cameras ----------- operated a T 320 with remote and cameras and it was really cool , the problem I was having is when I turned it around and it was facing me then the travel controlls were backwards of what you would think is right , with some time on it I am sure I could have got the feel
