You say the engine does bog down but to what extent? Try the following and see how the engines sounds comparted to these tests. You only have four possibilities. Hydro pump, hydro motor, gearbox, and chain case. Do as bobcatdan sugested. The two hoses on top of the hydro pump are easy to get to. Remove the two hoses and cap the fitting on the pump. Start the engine and let idle. Stroke the hydro lever forward and backward. If the pump is working properly it should kill the engine or just about kill it. The engine should at least labor hard. If the pump checks ok, then reattach the hoses. Engage the parking brake. If the parking brake is not working adjust it so it does. Once the parking brake is engaged start the engine and let it idle. Again, stroke the lever forward and backward. If the hydro motor is working properly it should again kill or about kill the engine. If it does not, there is one other possiblility at this point if the splines are stripped on the motor shaft or parking brake gear splines are stripped. Either way if the results from the pump test and the motor test are not the same you will need to remove the hydro motor and check what is wrong with it. If the results are the same then I would remove the chain case side plate and take a look if one of the chains broke and is wedged in there. Or you could do this first. The gearbox is the only item remaining. I do not think that if something broke in the hydro motor it would not lock up the system. If you remove the pump or motor you should be able to turn the shaft easily with a pair of pliers on the splines.
