So we have this skid steer that was running fine, unloading stacks of pallets, the guy driving it said it started shaking really bad, white smoke came out and died. Now when u hit key starter just spins, but not motor. Starter is good, tried to move flywheel with 4 foot cheater bar and it will not budge. Does this sound like a broke crank? Can the motor be removed with out removing the boom and cab? Thanks for any help

The shake could be the connection between the engine and pump too. I'd disconnect the connection and see what has locked up.
Remove the glow plugs or injectors and see if it spins.
The white smoke and shake doesn't sound good at all....

To get the boom and cab out of the way you must flip the cab enclosure over. Do a search and you will find the procedure, it's not too hard to do.

Did the engine overheat? They act like your engine when a piston scuffs the cylinder wall.
The starter spinning sounds strange though. It should engage the flywheel and all you should hear is a click if can not turn the engine.
I am not an engine expert but all the engines I have seen with a broken crankshaft continue to work but have a terrible knock.
You could have spun a rod or crankshaft bearing. I guess it could also be a timing gear problem if something let loose.
Is this a 3 cylinder L185 or the 4 cylinder engine L185?
If removing the hydro pumps does not free the engine then you will need to pull the engine. Raise and engage the boom locks under the boom. Then the cab and loader boom will rotate forward when you tip the cab. Best to have the right tools to do this, but it has been done without them.

Thanks for the replies, A mechanic at our local new holland shop talked to the new holland rep. When he told him what it did first thing out of his mouth was broke crank! He told me he has worked on a bunch of them and the connector between them is almost bulletproof. Did it overheat? Truth is I don't know, I was not running machine, just relaying all the information I have been able to extract. But these guys never break anything, according to them it just broke. We do have a factory manual, have just glanced at the procedure for tilting cab. We have never done that, granted we are used to splitting tractors so heavy equipment isn't exactly a complete stranger. I don't know how to upload the video, I pulled starter took to our starter guy. He tested it and swore it was good. Put back in, still did it. Removed and he gave me a fresh one to try and still the same. It's not starter or battery been checked. It seems as if the starter is extending all the way but barely hitting flywheel. It is a 3 cylinder turbo diesel, forgot name of it. What is best way to get booms on locks? We raised using another loader but after so high the machine just would tip forward. Little red necking with a trailer under the forks and pallets and safety chains made be feel better about pulling starter. Thanks for any help

Oh, what is the best way to move this machine? Safe to pull on trailer and off?

You can either unpin the cylinders on the rod end or disconnect a hose to let the oil escape out of the boom cylinders as you raise the boom with another loader. You could also attach a hose at the bottom of the boom cylinder and hook it up to tractor remote valve and use the tractor hydraulics to raise the boom. If you look at the bottom of the cylinder you will see a plug stick straight out at you. Remove the plug and attach the hose there. All you can do is pull oit
