new bearings w/ old races?

just curious.. I puled all 4 axles on case 1816. I am buying new bearings (8) but most I see on net don't come with races. Since mine are excellent to the eye and 'made in USA' and.. considering skid don't move fast enough to cause them to get warm- could I get by with just the new bearings and not new races? (old ones are Timken and made in USA) and my new bearings are also Timken- USA made. as a side note: my old bearings were ok but I'm having new keyways machined in axles so bought or am buying new bearings. I bought 4 so far. Thanks for input. I'd not do this on a highway rated axle but considering speed of skid..

The way i see it, the old bearings wore out, so it would have worn the cups too. You are that far in, you should do them too. Why do half a job that could come bite you on the arse later.

Thanks Tazza- There was nothing wrong with old bearings.. just replacing since I had to take them off the axles before taking the axles too a machine shop to get new keyways cut into them. I did figured though maybe best to just drop the extra money and be done with it. Thought I'd see if anyone else got by with old races. What made me question in replacing is the fact the bearings are turning so slow compared to highway application and that the old bearings were all good yet. But new races it will be. Never want to dig into the chain wells again if can help it.

That's what i figure too, they rotate very slowly vs what they can handle. The issue is, the chain case is prone to getting water contamination. As the bearings were replaced because they were possibly damaged from being removed from the axle, they should be ok to re-use.
