I just today picked up for my home use a Melroe Skid. By some of its characterisitics, I have so far been able to determine it to be EITHER an M-600 or M-610. I have not found an ID plates as of yet (other than the Wisconsin Engine plate which is barely readable so not sure if it is 25 or 30hp yet). If anyone can give me any info on this unit, I would appreciate ANYTHING at all. It has the 6 lug wheels so I have to assume that it is mid to late 60's. Not sure how to post pics on this forum board so here are links to the photos on my website. http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-001.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-002.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-003.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-004.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-005.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-006.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-007.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-008.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-010.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-011.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-012.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-013.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-014.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-015.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-016.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-017.gif http://www.firesignz.com/SkidSteer/iphone063012-018.gif> Thanks! That's quite the rig you've got there. Things that make me think it's a 600 or older.... There doesn't seem to have ever been front cab mounts welded on (hence the home made 'roll cage'. The missing floor panels, axle faces (it's hard to tell but I believe those are 600s), accelerator handle and modifications ie. holes drilled in air port. Things that would make me (possibly) think it's a 610....it has all "attachment" hooks welded on the front of the machine, all four attachment brackets on the rear....interesting that the four bolts and spacers are installed, indicating maybe the "5th wheel" attachment was used on this machine at one time and (I think) that is the 610 style "upright" but I'm not sure. Look on the engine and see if it says VF4D or VH4D. VF4Ds were used in M600s while VH4Ds were used in M610s. What the engine says doesn't guarantee anything however as engines and all engine sheet metal are interchangeable. The one sure way to tell is the ID plate...if it is still there... would have the information on it. If you can only read the serial # you can call Bobcat and they will share the info with you.

Sorry......if you face the bobcat from the front and look directly under the seat......the ID plate would have been right there.

Does it use a variable pulley for speed control? Looks like from the pics it's a belt drive?

Not sure about the variable pulley - I see a lever on the left side which is strapped into an engaged position for some reason WITH 3 heavy duty tie wraps - so I have to assume there is a reason. Will be checking into that soon.

Unfortunately NO id plate on the unit and the one on the engine is so covered in red paint - it might as well be a blank aluminum plate. I may have to accept that this is EITHER a 600 or 610. Not that big of a deal though as it seems the only difference is the engine HP.
I did spend some time doing some TLC type repairs - replaced missing and clogged zerks, greased everything I could find (18 spots SO FAR), replaced some missing pins locks and powerwashed everything.I found that many of the hydraulic valves have been recently replaced and also found that this unit has been modified to include an Delco/Remy 80 Amp alternator.
I will post some more pics of my progress when I have moment.

All M600/610 were belt drive with variable speed. Fire, 7LBSS has a fairly low opinion of M600/610s that I don't always agree with. Please understand that in no way am I trying to be offensive, but, unless this is just something to do for fun......I'm going to agree with him on this one. You can sink a ton of money into this machine that you will not recover (a boat load of free parts excepting).....I'd be careful how I proceed, again, unless it's just something to tinker & have a good time with and the expenditure is of no concern.

I wish I could figure out how to edit posts on this forum. Fire, I forgot to say to have a good time with it and there are plenty of good folks here to help you. Looking forward to your updates.
