My neighbor's Mustang had some problems and he did a lot of work on it, sadly medical problems have limited his activities and memory. I am trying to help him out and get lis loader working. It was running, but he changed the exhaust which overheated the fuel line and it caught fire. Not too much damage but it burned a large part of the electrical harness. Is there any where there is some sort of documentation of what it once was? no doubt it has been modified, but looking for a starting point. Has the onan motor, not sure what year it is as it has been painted a number of times.

no one with some hints? Hate to start slapping in wire and see what smokes.. My only guess is to try and match colors up before and after the melted area, the wires going to the coil are gone, as are the spark plug cables. Any suggestions of what to do with the exhaust? obviously a dual exhaust is not a good idea, I think he has the original muffler that was cu t off, I might be able to re-create it unless there is a better idea???

Finally got a chance to spend a few hours checking out the damages. The whole story was that it developed a fuel leak which caught fire, and burned the wiring. His wife grabbed a fire extinguisher and got the fire out, but made quite a mess! The wiring that was damaged, went to the fuel pump, and some sort of sensor in the hydraulic tank. I gently separated the charred remains and was able to figure out which wire went where. Luckily there were only three wires and the fuel line melted together. I decided to reroute the wiring to NOT go over the top of the motor, and right past the exhaust (which I believe started the whole problem) I re-routed the fuel line to also avoid the exhaust, and secured it so it would not bounce around, but still has some flex for motor movement (if needed) Not sure if the coil was damaged, but one spark wire was toast. After pulling apart the intake, and carb for a thorough cleaning, and wrapping all the wires to prevent rubbing, I tried to start the motor...... Sorry, Dead Battery!!! Gonna let it charge for awhile and try again tomorrow. I am working on this for my neighbor who has been having medical problems and was unable to finish the repair. He did get it partially pulled apart before he was sidelined. I am still looking through the pile of parts and upgraded parts to locate everything to put this back together. I did see him use it a few times, but I have never ran it myself. Next after I know it will run is to get the exhaust system back in shape. Not sure if it was cut off or broke (muffler) as it is separate from the 2 pipes that go down to the cylinders. Then gotta piece together the mount for the muffler. Does not look like it had an air filter on it, but I think it should have one.

Glad you have it pretty well sorted out. Hopefully it will work right when you get the battery charged up/

Battery is junk. I tried my jump-box but it is a bit discharged I guess. I returned to work so now this has become a weekend project when I am around. I found an inline fuse on the electric fuel pump that was blown, and a bad connection at the starter (batt cable) so still finding problems. This could take awhile... Have not decided what to do with the exhaust. Maybe weld the old muffler up so it can be put back in place(??)

If the metal left on the muffler isn't too thin, i'd weld it up. I have welded up pretty thin ones before, i had to use a torch and braze it but it did the trick.
