Good evening,

I have recently purchased a 1998 Mustang 2050 skid steer and I have been using it the past few months for plowing. Last week while plowing I noticed that my bucket tilt up is almost non existent. Raising the bucket arms and lowering the bucket arms are still working fine, tilting the bucket down still works fine. It's just after I dump the bucket I need to sit there and wait for the bucket to get back to the neutral position.

For this machine my bucket is controlled by my feet. One thing I have noticed is the left foot, which controls the raising/lowering of the bucket arm has very little play before I can feel where the controls engage. On my right foot I can move the front of my foot down and I can feel a little play before the controls engage, when I try to use my heal to lift the front of the bucket up I can bottom out the control and at full throttle the bucket barely moves. I am wondering if it's possible that there is an adjustment that might be screwed up?

The last time I remember it working correctly I did accidently dump snow onto my lap. I have since thawed and cleaned out all the snow, but the control hasn't worked correctly since.

I have never owned a machine like this so other than the Hydraulic fluid, I am not sure what else to check. I did check the Hydraulic fluid and it was about 2 quarts low. Once I put the two quarts in it didn't really work any better. Any possible suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks,
Those pedals are cable operated, remove the floorboard and check for any obstructions in that area, if the cable appears ok check the movement at the control valve in the engine compartment, if there are no obstructions, more than likely the cable needs replaced

gives me somewhere to start, thank you

Assuming the cable needs to be replaced is there a decent online store you're aware of to get Mustang parts. I live in the middle of nowhere so I am not likely to have a Mustang Dealer anywhere close.

Cool, I will send you a message once I have the time to go and verify if the cable appears to be bad. If I can't determine I might just take some pictures to show you to confirm. Thanks again.

to remove that floor board, according to my manual there are just 4 bolts to remove. will the Pedal Access cover just come off after those 4 bolts or will I need to remove the foot control pedals as well? the picture in the manual makes it look like the pedals will be in the way to remove the access cover. I am just asking so I make sure to bring all the tools I will need if possible. I am sure I will be missing something I need regardless. lol.

Yes, If u havent got apart yet, if the bolt heads arent all rusted, i would take the pedals n all out that makes it easier to accces. the access cover is bolted to the floorboard so it will have to come off

I purchased a new one of these back in the day (sold it in 2007) and as already stated the floor pedals use two push-pull cables (absolute dumb idea) that operate the spool valve that is situated in the engine bay on the left tower just below the arm pivot pin.
I suggest that you fully remove the cables and free them up as they are probably gunked up with dirt or replace with new ones as they're probably had their day after 27 years.

Just curious, how much do these cables typically go for cost wise? I haven't really bought tractor parts or anything similar in years so I am kind of afraid to ask. lol.

Thanks,

Just curious how big of a job will it be replacing these cables? I am moderately handy and have some tools, should I even attempt to do this myself? I have no problem changing breaks/rotor on a car, I have helped restore 2 tractors in the past. I just know that some things aren't really easy to do without specialty tools

Not hard to replace, remove the air cleaner for access, once both ends are loose attach the new cable to the old cable n pull it thru, make sure all your yokes/ ball joints Locking nuts etc are set the same place as the old cable, shouldn't need much adjustment then to get the pedal angle where it feels the best on your feet. the cables are heavy cables, usually what causes failure is moisture gets in them, i have loaders running out there with 20,000 plus hrs and haven't problems.
the cost on the cable is reasonable at around 130 dollars

well I lost complete control of the tilt up this morning while plowing, II will probably take off work early to defrost the thing and see if I can at least put eyes on these cables. thanks again for all the help guys. I appreciate it.
