Regarding overheat temps, consider the physics. I had a new '85 Camaro, it was 96 °, I was driving up a mountain interstate. 5,000 feet elevation lowers the boiling point of water to 203°. The temp gauge was climbing to near 260°. I was concerned and started to turn off the a/c. Then I noticed the "red zone" in the temp gauge didn't begin until about 270°. At that time I crested the mountain and the temp began to drop. Pressure raises the boiling point (15 psi of water=257°), automobile coolant raises the boiling point to 300-400°. I assume the coolant is expected to be at 15 psi radiator pressure.
