So long story short I bought a forklift 3 years ago and I was told it had a skidsteer motor in it. Its diesel, and has never had an issue for the last 3 years. Today it cranked slow and wouldnt even fire. It just puffed white smoke from the exhaust. It was probably 30 degrees here but I did let the glowplugs warm up a few minutes before I turned it over. With it puffing white smoke I assume it is getting fuel ? What are the top 1-5 easy things to check ? Could it also be my battery was just not the proper voltage which would prevent maybe the glowplugs from getting hot enough ? Thank you.

White smoke means you are getting fuel, but not hot enough to fire.
I'd start by pulling the plugs and ensuring that they are in good shape. Power them and make sure the glow to the tip. They do burn out.

B ohm check em. C remove apply 12v ensure tip glows red,D back up and ensure fuel quality. ( no water in trap) e compression check ,, restart,,,, check fuel quality, ensure 12 getting to glows, ohm check glows.
