Our company recently purchased approx a 1998 lx665 and before long we noticed that the left side seemed to be less responsive than the right. After some tinkering we discovered that there was a whining sound when using the left wheels much and also possibly a faint grinding sound, although we aren't positive about that one. It does ok if you're turning to the left and using more of the right side (ie pushing in on the right stick more than left), but using much of the left and the whining gets pretty loud and steering seems slightly unresponsive. So we removed the wheel and inspection panels and since we are new to skid steers (have had forklifts for 20 years) we have a few questions. Ok first off there seemed to be some play in the main shaft/cogs that both chains loop over. The center drive shaft I should say. I don't know if this is normal or not. It seems to me that it should be pretty darn stable, but there is some slight play. Also how much slack is supposed to be in the chains? Both sides where full of oil and the chains seemed to be in good order. Our guess is that there is a problem with the gear case/box. We are at a loss and before we take it to a repairman we would like to know more about where we stand. Thanks for any help and I'll answer any questions that may help, if I can.
