http://huntsville.craigslist.org/grd/4122216122.html I was thinking about buying this LX 885 but is has a service mode light on. The owner says it operates fine even though the light is on and says it is a "electrical issue". Was thinking about offering him much less than 10500. Also it has around 1500 hours on it. Any advice here would be appreciated.

There is no service mode light. If the light is to the right or left of the center digital display that is normal for one to be lit. The light indicates what is being displayed in the digital readout. There are five items that can be read from the digital display. Pressing the arrow key moves the light to the next item. If the loader sees an overheat condition that light will light and the display will display this information..

Ok, thanks for the advice Mike. Since I have not seen the machine in person and am a newbie here in skid steer land, I'm really just going on a brief conversation I had with the owner who also doesn't know much about them--so Ill call the guy back and find out a bit more precisely what the issue is. I am also curious about the attachments that are compatible with this machine. Would something like a 811 backhoe for bobcat work? http://mobile.craigslist.org/tls/4062752522.html Ive noted that some people change/hack the hookup so their particular machine can accept different implements. I have a friend who has a machine shop, so I'm interested in doing that if necessary and not too difficult.

Ive spoken with the owner again and the specifics are: There are 2 options to start up in (*run mode* or *service mode*) It will only start in service mode. Also: A indicator light with a gear on it stays lit. (the owner assumed that was something to do with hydraulics?) Supposedly the issue was traced to a pressure switch which they tried to replace but could not find anything that seemed to match the part they got to replace it with. So what do yall think? Is it a good deal for this machine or should I look elsewhere or make a much lower offer.

You need to ask the owner if the light is red or if it is amber. With the service run switch in the service position the hydraulics will not work unless someone has done some modifications they should not have. The problem could be a seat switch, seat belt switch, seat harness or even the instrument panel. Don't operate this machine if the safety equipment has been by-passed. You can probably replace all the components of the safety circuit, except for the instrument panel, for about 200.00. The instrument panel has lines around the various windows. If the lines or silver in color you may have a bad instrument panel. If the lines are gold in color the problem is likely somewhere else.
As for the backhoe, you may need to make an upper bracket to mount to the front of the loader where you enter it. There are two hooks already welded to the lower front.

Thanks for the insights Mike. If I get this hunk of machinery I can see Ill definitely be using this forum some more. About the light: it is red. Here is a image emailed to me by the owner. photo LX885InstPanel.jpg photo LX88510.jpg I'm deciding between this and an older model Ford 340 tractor w/ loader. I'm looking for something reliable and cheap that a novice mechanic can work on. But I really could use the versatility and maneuverability of a skid steer. It is a tough choice. photo LX8858.jpg photo LX8859.jpg photo LX8853.jpg photo 00u0u_1bd3ETALchF_600x450.jpg It's tough deciding ;\

What you have listed as the temp light is actually the stop light telling you to shut the unit down. The charge pressure sender needs to be changed. Flip the seat up and look under the engine fuse and relay panel. There may be two senders under there, one for the charge pressure and one for the air cleaner. Replace the charge pressure one.
