Hello I have a 98 JD 8875 which is essentially a NH LX865. I have just replaced the battery/ alternator and starter and have a weird electrical issue.

When I turn the key to the ON position and have the screen on battery it shows the battery voltage of 12.6 V and then as I watch the display it drops down to around 10 volts. Is there something taking a draw from the battery or a relay doing something weird ? I thought it might be the glow-plug timer countdown but that display does not show.

TIA

Is the yellow preheat/glow plug light also showing? If so, the voltage drops while it's heating. Sometimes, when really cold, mine preheat stays on long enough to pull the battery down to where it won't start. I then turn key off a few seconds to let battery recover a bit and then turn straight to start with no preheat and often it will start.

well, I have a lx865, and it HATE starting in cold temps unless block heater is on

but it never drops voltage while in pre heat, it stays at12. what ever
again as long as block heater is on, it fires right up first efw cranks

NOW if I don't have block heater on and temps are below say 35 degree's

it will again HOLD voltage on first 1-2 tries, but from there it will run battery down pretty fast trying to start if its not happy with cold temps

and that on full syn oil

I would suggest maybe checking your electrical connection on things, as corrosion can cause loss of voltage getting places, even to gauges that read things

I know 5-6 yrs ago, I had a bunch of eclectic issues, I was chasing trying to find voltage dropping, and starter issues,, battery always running down,
so, also replaced starter alt, relays and even battery disconnect, but issue stayed, never nothing pointing to any one things, was driving me nuts!
and then found a LOT of corrosion on all things , from corrosion on fuses, wires going to them, to relays, even found a battery disconnect that was faulty causing varying voltage flow
and then found corrosion under the wire insulation on main ground wire,.
crazy how corrosion can get on , in and under things over time

SO< I say, start looking close at wires connections, fuse connections and so on!

and make sure your battery is actually GOOD, with a good load test and not just a voltage reading!

Thanks, I will pay attention next time I start it to see if that is the case. Appreciate your response

Thanks for your reply, I will check all connections , fuses and relays etc
