Hi Im loosing oil into the final drive from the hydrostatic motor so am in the process off pulling it down. I have a workshop manual for the LS 160 - 170 that they say is very similar my only concern is I am attempting to pull the coupler from the motor shaft and I have put a bit of pressure on it but just want to make sure it is not held in any way on the 665 ? I greatly appreciate your advice.

The gear is held on only by the outer bolt. The shaft and gear have a tapered spline and that is why it is hard to remove. Just increase the pressure on the puller and it will pop loose. The gear will not come out of the gearbox though so be sure the two motor mounting bolts are removed to give the motor more room to move when pressing against the gear and shaft.

thanks so much I was thinking you wouldn't have the motor hanging off the shaft, obviously I was wrong. hope I haven't damaged the motor.
