Trying to change tired battery. Removed side panel but boomis in way. Tried to lift boom with jack; pedals unlocked ,but will not rise. Do I need to break hyd. lines to release pressure so as to lift boom for clearence to remove battery out the side? Removed muffler but too tight to lift out. Thank you

Can you get to it with another vehicle and start and run with jumper cables to lift the boom? Even to lift with a jack if you put power in the system it should release the valve solenoids but you would need a weight in the seat and seat belt connected then it should lift.

If you do lift it but not far enough to engage the boom lock be sure to make it impossible for it to come down on its own. If you get caught under that boom Christmas would be pretty grim.

As Bush told us, Mission Accomplished. Had air jack on the rear hinge and then a floor jack on the bucket. Raised both going back and forth and also released Hyd line on cylinder. It raised about 10 inches, enough to slide battery out. Lost about a cup of oil. Had tried to jump but to cold to start. The thought of a grim Xmas was present when my body was under the cross brace for a short time. Not easy to fish out a 60 lb battery with no handle. Thank you Vise Grips. Should be an easier way.. Thanks for input. It did help Don

Nice to hear you did it with minumal loss of blood and oil. If it has vertical posts you can sometimes use two box end wrenchs for a lifter. Saw a nice battery lift in NAPA yesterday but no idea what it costs and of course I wont need one till they are all out of them anyway.

I own one of those straps that attach to posts. The trouble is batterys now should have handles and I remember seeing it at least 8 years ago. Will look again in about 6 years or so when I may need it.
