I have a 2002 LS180 with 1045 hours on it. If I leave the engine running and exit the cab to do something the engine seems to go to go through cycles of heavy white smoke coming out of the exhaust and it sounds like the engine changes pitch. I have also noticed that the machine is down on power? Any ideas? I also a 2-speed transmission that does not shift. The return spring on top of the transmission is broken but when I took off the broken spring I switched the service in the fuse block on so I could leave it running and checking other components. The hydraulic actuator cylinder that should cycle the gear box back and forth does not move. I can hear the solenoid clicking but the cylinder does not move in or out. I disconnected the front bolt on the cylinder and I can manually changed the gear.. I am going to replace the spring but I would think the cylinder should still move without it? Any help out there? Last problem is the bucket control pedals are very stiff to operate. they feel like they need to be greased at the pivot points, I took off the cover but cant find any grease joints. I soaked them in WD40 which helped some but they still take a lot of foot pressure move them.

The cylinder is a single acting cylinder, only one hose going to it. As such, it needs an external force to move the cylinder in one direction. That force is provided by the spring. You will need to remove the foot pedal assy's from the loader so you can free up the pivot bushings. Disconnect the linkage, remove three bolt coming into the bracket from the front of the loader, remove one bolt directly below the pedal pivot shaft and remove the two bolts in the aux control pivot bracket. You could be getting air in the fuel system when idleing or the cold start mechanism, wax motor, is not working properly on the injection pump.
