I have an LS170 that the starter grinds for a couple tries when you go to start it. I assume the kickin mechanism is slow and the starter starts spinning before the gear is engaged. Does anyone have a fix for this? Lube the mechanism? I can put a new starter in it but didn't want to spend the $100 for something that can be fixed with a little elbow grease...

Mine does that also after a bout of no start use this winter. I think it is the starter solenoid contacts being a little burnt and not making good contact at first. If it is like the old solenoids maybe able to take apart and clean the contacts. Mine got better on its own.
