Just picked up an LS170 and an LX665 for a project. The LS has just shy of 8000 on the meter and the motor is weak. Has one dead cylinder and quite a bit of blowby. The LX is in pieces mostly robbed to keep the LS going. Motor and pumps are complete so might be able to make one engine out of two. Beside the piston rings I cant seem to find a supplier beside the dealer for the necesary parts. The boom and controls on the LS are a little loose but not bad for 8000hrs. Does anyone else have an LS170 or equivalent in the 8-10,000 hour range. Picked the machines up for scrap price so I think I did alright.

You problaby found my piston rings that I sell on ebay. There are a few other parts coming available. Really depends what you need. Where are you located? I have pistons, rings, and some gaskets available. The big thing is crankshaft and block. They arent available aftermarket and new are out of this world. If the 170 is still running, you can probably just get away with a bore job and some bottom end work. Also, get the injectors rebuilt. We test almost every set and they are almost always bad. I also may be interested in a trade of LX665 parts for new engine parts. Mike mdfyock AT Yahoo.com Shoot me an email. Include your phone number if thats easier than email.

Havent started looking for the specific hard parts yet I just knew I could get rings because thet are not application specific. Had a few run ins with these engines and they get expensive quick. Seen a few break the cam and ruin the block and several with cyl head issues. I dont take chances with aftermarket gaskets so they will be OEM. I agree on the injectors and will most likely have the pump checked, set, and resealed. When cranks approach the $2000 dollar mark I can have them repaired for alot less. As of right now nothing is on the market but when the LS is together and proven I may consider listing parts. For what I have in the two I should just start selling the parts and look for another project but I like to make thing work if ya know what I mean. Been away from the forum for a while but its good to be back. Hopefully less work and more play in the future.

They do get expensive fast, but since there are some aftermarket stuff available now its a little better. NH was/is getting around $100/cylinder just for rings. Kinda crazy....
