I repaired a leak on a Geil tired skidsteer today and I don't see many Geil , when I looked at it I asked the guy if it was maybe early 80's or late 70's as it was in peityful condition and he says it's a 2005 and he got it from 3,000 , I was shocked that a machine could get to that condition in such a short life and that he paid about 2,000 too much ---------come to find out I know the guy he got from and understand now why it looks like it does , it was used to clean up storm debree -----------I never can understand how someone that uses equipment to work every day can abuse and not maintain thier equipment
 
Owner/operators i find look after their gear, if they work for a 'boss' who buys the machine and the operator only operates it and gets paid X amount per hour just don't give a toss. Its not their machine, they just sit in the seat, and move controls. If it breaks, its not their problem, its for the boss to pay to fix. Its sad when people simply don't care, a little grease here and there will make it last and last.

I couldn't agree more about o/o looking after their machine and employees not caring. In my case my employees are involved with all repairs and maintenance to our equipment. They know if they break it they will be involved with fixing it. I think that helps show a little respect for the machinery. They also know how picky I am about my machinery and they do not want to tell me about something stupid they did or did not do, and I will find out. When I first started doing mechanical repairs I was taught by a owner/mechanic of a rental store to take the time, do it right and do regular scheduled maintenance. That was thirty plus years ago and I think I am turning into that person in a lot of ways. Hopefully I will encourage some to think the same way for their benefit as well as mine. With my three businesses, and amount of equipment, you have to try and do it right the first time and hopefully make it better, or you will get no work done that makes money. Just the other day one of my employees said he would have no problem paying good money for any of our equipment knowing how we maintain it. Nothing is more rewarding than doing and seeing a job finished that was done right and made better than before IMO.
