Hello all. I'm new to the forum and new to the skid steer market and I'm looking for advice. I'm looking to buy a used skid steer to used on my 10 acre property for general maintenance and odd jobs. I am currently looking at an LS190 with a little over 4000 hours and they are asking $9500 for it. It seems to be in pretty good condition and all functions seem to be in working order. My only concern is that has a loud whining noise when moved forward or backward and seems to get louder with speed. My questions are: Is this a fair price for this particular machine and should I be concerned with the whining noise as it seems to be the only thing that really caught my attention. Thank you all in advance for your input.

Whining noise is normal on a hydrostatic drive machine, what sort of engine speed did you try it at? Pumps do run loud when the engnine speed is low or under lots of strain,
Hopefully someone with one of these machines can give your more advise. The price seems to be reasonable to me.

It seems more like it's coming from the drivetrain and not from the hydraulic pump because I didn't hear when operating the boom and bucket.

I agree with Tazza, as a heavy equip/heavy truck mechanic my experience has been there's usually a whine. I have a L185 and it whines a bit running straight away but not during bucket operation. As far as price, we paid $26,500 for our 2010 New Holland. It had 1300 hours on it and after cruising the net, it appears price is highly dependent on hours on the machine all other things being equal.
