I picked up a used splitter, no motor, that I will run off my bobcat 630 aux hydraulics. Not sure if I need to set up the control valve as open or closed center or if it matters? Also not sure how to tell how the control valve is already set up.
Markings on the valve say “energy” 196030 or 196930, could not tell for sure, also 318Z and c 36
Thanks for any advice in advance

If it had a motor and pump on it before i would suspect its an open centre. Just hook up your aux lines to it and control it from outside the machine. Ensure your park brake is in good shape too.

Managed to track down the mfg and they confirmed that as well, also have seals available Thanks Tazza

Just a suggestion: I am not sure how small you want to split your blocks, but see the link below:

The proof-of-concept for the our purpose built splitter was an old trailer splitter that we mounted an attachment plate to. This way, you can split wood from the comfort of the seat and not have lift, bend over, etc.
You can also use the splitter like a set of tongs for moving around bigger blocks.
FWIW,

Nice job. Mine will see very limited use, fireplace and campfire logs. I'm only setting it up because I got the unit for next to nothing. I'm even going to leave it set with the trailer to make it easier to just roll it around instead of setting it up on a quick tach plate. That way I can shift it to vertical if need be for logs too heavy to lift.
