I bought a nice L785 but the guy I got it from never drove it because it belonged to a BIG electrical contractor, we never figured out how to activate the manifold heater. St. Louis New Holland says they put 2 different engines in these, so I have to find out which one is in it, but both of them use a manifold heater - not glow plugs. The start/ignition switch looks to be a replacement because it has an "accessory" position on it. Does anyone have one of these and how do you activate the manifold heater on it? Thanks!

Worst case, can you install a push button to operate the grid heater? That or another new starter switch that you can turn to the left to “glow/heat” before turning to the right to start like old bobcats had.

Rodbuilder, do you know what engine you have? If you have a FPT (Fiat) 4 cylinder diesel, you may have a grid heater like mine has. If so, it's just above the manifold between it and the intake ducting with a large gauge red cable going to it from a solenoid behind the engine. Mine cycles for 30 seconds when ever the key is turned on showing a digital countdown on the display. If you cycle it two or three times it will definitely let you know it's working, its housing gets REAL HOT and will burn fingers on a 2° day.

And it appears ever breed of diesel is different when it comes to starting. We maintained a fleet of Case front end loaders years ago and even if it was 100 degrees in August you cycled the glow plug or the engine wouldn't start.

The push button next to the key activates the heater.
