I have a CAV 3249F020 pump. The engine runs great but the pump is leaking like a sieve. It looks like the leaks are coming from around the top cover and the throttle shaft and fuel shut off shaft. I've seen a couple of videos that show gasket replacement with the pump still on the machine. It doesn't look too hard but I would be curious to hear any comment y'all might have. Pros/Cons? Thanks for the help - Dwain

the only suggestion I have is to download a exploded view of the pump and study it before you do anything. As a just in case thing to avoid a flying then missing spring or some other part.

If you do tear into it keep your work area very clean and dust free. When putting back together do not force any part. There are some real tight tolerances in there and the heat from your hand will not allow them to go back together

Weeelll, after much reading, research, and talking to the Perkins Center in Oklahoma, I think I need to remove the injector pump and have it resealed. It looks like I will need to remove the timing cover and rotate the crank until all of the timing marks line up when the key on the crank is pointing straight up. This should put #1 at TDC. The manual says removing the injectors and the rocker shaft will make this easier, but I don't think I will do this. Next, I will verify that the scribe mark on the pump flange and the engine block are aligned perfectly (they are). Then, remove the screws from the timing gear and remove the three pump mounting bolts and slide it out. To reinstall the pump, I will align the pin on the gear hub and the hole in the end of the pump and once it is engaged, rotate the body of the pump (it shouldn't take but a few mm either way) until the scribe marks line up. Bolt the pump on, put the timing gear cover back on (with a new seal), bleed the system and crank it up (hopefully). Some of the 4.108 Perking have a quill shaft and apparently you can remove/reinstall the pump without removing the timing cover and unbolting the gear.. But according to the Perkins place, I will need to pull the timing cover. Does this procedure sound correct? As always, any input/information is greatly appreciated. Thanks - Dwain

definitely don't need to remove the pump to replace seals in the injector pump cover. I did this on my machine. Actually its very simple. I believe I purchased the seal kit ebay

The top cover is leaking, but I think it is also leaking around the end plate assembly, possibly the seal around the transfer pump. That being the case, I am pretty sure I will need to remove the pump. Just want to make sure I have the correct steps for pulling the pump. Thanks for the input. - Dwain
