I'm new to the forum. There's a lot of great information available here, and I appreciate all of your guys' knowledge. I read through a lot here, but couldn't find answers to my current problems: I just purchased this L185. It has 1720 hours on it, and is a 2006 model year. It has the 2 speed transmission. Sadly, I was misled by the seller. He seemed like an honest enough guy, and when I purchased the machine, it had a pretty good leak of diesel fuel coming out the bottom of the machine. He told me they recently replaced a seal on something, and it was probably just not installed correctly, and he would have his mechanic stop by my shop and take care of it, as it was a "5 minute fix". Yeah, well, the guy isn't returning any of my calls. So, it's on me......I pride myself on being an extremely honest guy, and go out of my way to help people when I can. I know not all are the same. Here's a picture of the part that is leaking. It's a steady drip, drip, drip.....Is this a simple manner of removing the part and replacing the seal behind it? I don't know what this part is, or what it does, or what is connected to it. I've been unable to find a parts break down online thus far, and the local dealer doesn't have them in stock. Here's a link to the picture on my photobucket account: http://s849.photobucket.com/user/hawkfan9/media/New%20Holland%20L185/IMAG0567_zpst2piko5m.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 Hopefully, that works. Issue #2: When I raised the boom up and engaged the safety lockout so the arms can't come down, I then pulled the sides off to find my leak. Now, I have reversed the handle, and the round bar-stock safety catches that come out have slid back into the machine, but the boom will NOT COME DOWN. The bucket will work, tilting back and forth, but the boom is stuck in the up position, and the foot pedal control is very stiff and won't move, as if it's locked out some how. Any idea's about what is going on here, and how to fix it. I'm pretty ticked at myself for getting taken a little, but it's my own fault. I do think I paid a good price for the machine, and want to take care of these issues and getting running properly and safely. Thanks for any and all help resolving these matters.

The only way to fix the fuel leak KSB is to remove the injection pump and send to a pump shop. There will be additional damage inside. Bosch says the leak is caused by air entering the fuel supply causing the internal parts in that area to beat themselves to death and causing a leak. It would be best to talk to a Bosch injection pump rebuilder first just to confirm.........As for your second problem, there are solenoid locks on the control valve to prevent the valve spools from moving when you are not in seat with the seat belt fastened. Do the following. First of all reengage the boom lock under the boom. You are in a dangerous situation with the boom up and working with the control valve. If the boom has already leaked down so you can not engage the locks, then loosen a line at the bottom of one of the lift cylinders and let the oil seep out allowing the boom to drift down. You can tighten the line before the boom is all the way down just as long as you are no longer working or entering the loader from under the boom.........With the key off enter the cab but before you sit in the seat look at the instrument panel and continue to watch it as you sit in the seat. When you sit in the seat the instrument panel should light all the lights as it does a self check. If the lights do not light up the system is not seeing you in the seat. If the light come on, then once the self check is done the seat belt light should be on. Fasten the seat belt and that light should go out. Start the engine and see if the pedals work...............If the boom still will not lift then unfasten the seat belt. Try your pedals and see if the bucket pedal is still free. It is possible the bucket solenoid is stuck and not engaging the spool. The pedal should be locked when the seat belt is unfastened. I am not working from my main computer so I do not have access to my drawings, but I do not think the L185 had a run/service switch. You can check if it does by removing the cover over the cab fuse panel, above your head on the right, and see if there is a toggle switch at the front of the fuses. On units with a service/run switch it was not unusual for the switch to accidently being switched which would allow the engine to start, but the hydraulic pedals would be locked. If the lights on the instrument panel come on when you sit in the seat, WITH THE KEY OFF then the service/run switch is in the run position, if it has one, and you need not check any farther for the switch.

Mike Thanks. I will check these items and report back.
