I have added back up camera's to a few different machines
Sorry non were JD skid steers
but the process is pretty much the same
the key is placing camera where it see's what you want it, this can be done in many ways, its kind of up to you on how IMO
as for what brand camera, this honestly comes down to what type o camera you want, hard wired or wireless,
and from there, its about finding one that fits your needs or size requirement
I have used a few that came with 12 volt male cig lighter plugs that were pretty much plug and play as long s machine had a cig female lighter plug, or you add one?, which they come in handy IMO for other things, from phone chargers to flashing lights and so on!
they can be added pretty easy too and come in many set ups, I tend to have battery tenders on most things, and they sell battery tender 2SAE plug adapters/splitters that allow you to just tap into the tender plug with a splitter and then they make cig lighter plugs with the same 2SAE plug,
so you can just plug into the chargers plug, no extra wiring
just make sure you have a fused connection from 2 SAE set up to battery!
from there is finding where you want to mount the screen for the camera and well the SIZE screen you want
what I have found is its best to try and mount screen someplace where its a more natural looking spot when going backwards when possible, and or have it on a fold down or likes set up, so when NOT using it can be moved a little more to be out of way to do things
as for screen size if your aging or just don;'t have great eye sight, BUY the biggest screen you can fit
I personally like screens at least 7+ inches,as my eye sight is NOT the best anymore, and everything is SMALL on a
small screen to begin with(younger folks might not notice this, but older folks I think will agree!)
also will add, the farther from the rear of the machine you mount camera, the smaller every thing will be
so placing camera as close to end of machine is best!
Just remember that camera's will also get coated with dust more there,too, so pro's and con's of locations some times!
as for actual brand of camera's
honestly, I think there all pretty much the same , I have seen dirt cheap china models work perfectly and top end one fail , they all seem to suffer quality control , so, like pick of the litter price doesn't increase odds of quality from what I have seen on them
I just say buy the biggest screen size you can use, and base what type on your skills in wiring things or not
the more plug and play sets up are easiest and the hard wired everything is more skill required
so thats up to you to know and work with!
