Hi. My skid steer is not used much (acreage work). I want to change the hydraulic oil but not the case oil. Manual implies the drain for hydraulic oil is the same one as the case oil. Is this correct? It was changed at 1000 hours 6 years ago, only has 1050 now. Does the oil degrade over time? Maybe I don't need to do it? Thanks for your thoughts.

Hi there! Thanks for your question. Let's address your concerns about your skid steer's hydraulic oil and gearbox oil.

1. Is draining hydraulic oil the same as draining gearbox oil?
In many skid steers, the hydraulic system and the gearbox share the same oil reservoir. This means that when you drain the hydraulic oil, you're likely also draining the gearbox oil. To confirm, refer to the specific model's service manual for clarity on whether the systems are connected. If the manual states they share oil, both will need to be refilled after draining.
