The fly wheel ring gear may have a bad spot on it. Two bad starters in 18 mouths, it keeps grinding off the starter gear. Has any one change there ring gear? Thinking about pulling Hyd. pump and not pulling the engine any input on this problem? Thank you

Make sure your putting the right starter in

It could indeed be a bad spot, but you really need to pull it to be sure.
You would need it off to see if you can replace the ring gear too, not all can be replaced as they are machined into the fly wheel.
