JCB 160 series 11 jerky hydralics on main boom down only

Jerky hydraulics would usually indicate an air suck somewhere, but since it only does it in one direction, could it have something to do with the dipper limiter mentioned in the linked specs?
Hopefully someone will be along with an answer, but if not you might ask over at TractorByNet, there is a lot more variety there and we have a pretty good crossover, user-wise.

Just moved my Case crawler.
Blade would come up very jerky, but smooth on the downward travel. Found most of the hydraulic oil had leaked out. Topped off and smooth in both directions.
Hope this helps.
