Can somebody put in a good word (s) on the Isuzu 54 HP engine on the 843 Bobcats? I am only familiar with the Kubota and other engines, but not at all on the Isuzu. Has the engine been a good workhorse, dependable? thanks Mike

That's the same engine used in the diesel version of the isuzu trooper. From my experience the Isuzu 4JB1 is a good engine as long as it is maintained. Probably as good as the Kubota and as an 843 owner/user I have been satisfied with it so far.

A little noiser then the Kub but the best starting diesel I have ever owned (we have quite a variety (Cat 3406 3208, Deere 6068T, Nh N844, Detroit 671 653 353, Cummins L10, Mack 237, Kubota 2203 D950) Start at 0 far with no glow plugs or block heater. Just like a gas engine if it would crank a reasonable rpm it would go. Had @ 2500 hour when I sold it, vary little oil consumption. Seemed to be a good solid engine.
