So I decided to change my hydraulic fluid on my new (old)453 machine because the lift arms raise very slowly. (thought it was wrong viscowhatever due to cold) The fluid was a chocolate milk colour and very bubbly. Indicates water right? I filled it back up with new fluid, ran threw all the motions drove it around for twenty and it was still lifting slow. So I changed the fluid again! Still milky/bubbly, still slow. Maybe theres air in the system? Is there a way to bleed it? Easy way to test or see if theres an inlet suction problem? The arms only feel slow in the middle of the ram extension? Im lost! Please steer me in the right direction. Thanks in advance for any sugestions.

Its possible the gear p ump is on the way out from water contamination. You need to keep flushing the system till its clean again. Sadly this will use up lots of oil.
To get the air out, just keep using it then let it sit over night. Over time it will self purge. You need to get that water out! Its possible the chocolate colour was rust.....

Is there a better way to flush the system? I turn the nozzle downwards like the manual says to drain but seems like very little drains. I posted a few pictures of my problem here.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/59042948@N07/?saved=1
1 Space after the link will make it work

Ohh and in phote2 does anyone know what the lever/shiney thing is? Should it not have a boot or something over it?

It appears to be a plug. Generally there are two hoses from the fuel tank, one is puckup the other is the return.... Yours must be setup different.
The way i drain the hydraulics is to run it at idle and pump it out the aux couplers.
