I have a late 70's model mustang 1700 with torque converter and ford gas engine. Just picked up a front log splitter, 30 ton. with a 4 way wedge. Wondering how many gallons per minute this unit pushes out the hydraulic pump. Seems to have issues with large logs unless I start way at the top with the 4 way wedge. once it starts it does not stop, just seems to stop when wedge is in the middle of log. Any ideas?

GPM is not your issue, pressure is. You may want to hook up a gauge to see what you are getting to see if it's still right. If it's low, you won't have the full 30 tonne of force at the wedge. The larger it is, the more power it will need to split logs too.
I have been tossing up the idea of making one, time is the limiting factor though....

What kind of numbers am I looking for? 1000psi or better? Is there some kind of booster pump that can be added to get the pressure I need? Thanks.

There are no booster pumps that i'm aware of, if there were, it would reduce your flow anyway.
I don't know what pressure it should run, sorry. I'd have thought 2,400 psi or around that figure. Bobcat machines run anywhere from about 1,500 - 3,000 depending on the model....
