I am renting an old set of bobcat pallet forks from my local equipment rental. I talked with the owner about purchasing the set of pallet forks and he said he would look at his inventory and see if he can put a number together when I'm finished renting them. I am trying to put an offer in my head about what I want to ask for them. This is an older set of forks probably 10+ years old that has been paid for several times over. The forks themselves are very straight but the Frame that the forks slide on is bent in one area. The forks still work but they are off about an inch or two because of the Frame being bent. Looks like someone was digging out trees or something with it. I could probably take a oxy acetylene torch to the frame and bent it back straight if I buy them but my question is how much should I pay for them.
I called my local bobcat dealer and for a brand new set of 4k bobcat brand forks he said it is $1000.00 plus tax. So in my mind I wouldn't care to pay $400.0 for this old bent set of forks. Is that a reasonable offer? Too low or too high? Thanks.
