I have a later-model 553 with the keyless start on it and it's leaking hydraulic fluid really bad from the vent on top of the chain case. I called a local dealer and talked to the service manager who used to be one of their mechanics and he told me that he thinks it has a blown seal on one of the drive motors that is sending fluid into the chain case. Questions: 1.Has anyone heard of this happening before? 2. Why would a drive motor send fluid back to the chain case, instead of the hydraulic tank? 3. How can we tell which motor has the bad seal? 4. Can someone send me a link to a free shop manual for this machine? OH! The machine is for sale. If anyone wants it you can email me at [email protected] Thanks for any help.

FOLLOW UP: The answer to my post is this - After calling 2 Bobcat dealers and talking to their service managers I found out that Bobcat have a very common problem of blowing the seals and o-rings in the drive motors, which will send fluid directly back to the chain case!!! The stink seal kits cost $93 each from Bobcat so I ordered them and am in the process of taking the motors out so we can put the necessary o-rings and the seal so it kills this problem. I found it notable that I didn't get a single answer to this question off this forum! Bye!

Seals will always go bad given enough time, they harden up and leak. When one fails, it's best to replace both as when will the other go? so it's easier to just do both rather than try and work out what one was leaking.
As for the comment that you wanted to add a note that you didn't get an answer from this forum..... I have always held back from commenting on your behaviour when things don't go your way, or there is a comment that you didn't like. Exactly how much do you pay to get information off this site? on top of that, you asked where you could get a FREE manual for this machine. I for one don't have the time i once did, life has gotten in the way, i don't get on the forum anywhere near as much as i used to and provide FREE information to it's members. If you don't like the fact you didn't get an answer quick enough, the door is that way -------------------->
