READ CAREFULLY ............... Well, it's like this - I bought an 853 Bobcat to resell and the owner showed me receipts for an amazing $7000 (!!!) for a rebuild and install on the machine. KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS REBUILD WAS DONE BY A "PROFESSIONAL" DIESEL SHOP, AND SO WAS THE INSTALL. Being 275 miles away from him, I asked if it had any leaks and he said: "No". The seller is a deputy sheriff in Indiana! So when I got there, I saw his patrol car, knew he was a cop and thought I didn't have any reason to not believe him - right? WRONG!! When I stopped to get a something to eat an hour later there was engine oil all over my steel deck trailer! Lucky me! I kept thinking it might be hydraulic oil and might just need a hose tightened, as the invoice said they replaced 2 hoses on it too. WRONG again! It's the engine dipstick that keeps needing the oil, and the leaked oil is MUCH thicker than hydraulic oil. A friend of mine who is a licensed heavy equipment operator ran it around the property and worked it hard for maybe an hour or 2, and when I check the oil again it down a quart! I popped off the side cover at the right of the engine and all that was there was a quarter-sized clump of crud that looked like it had been there for years. It was NOT wet with oil. I also ran my fingers around inside that end of the engine but it only had some dirty dust on it. So that eliminates the right crank seal. As for the left crank seal, that one is by the drive belt and the loader operates with NO problems, or belt slippage, so obviously the belt doesn't have any oil on it. So can anyone tell me: a. Does an Isuzu-powered 853 have an oil cooler for the engine? b. Is there anywhere on the engine that is known to have a problem with oil leaks? c. I we cut that piece of sheet metal in back of the radiator so we can pull the engine out vertically, how long should ti take to r & r the engine?? I figure it will be a LOT easier f we cut that panel off because I can weld another piece of metal onto that panel, then bolt it back in place when we're all done! And if anyone reading this lives by Rockford, or Sterling, Illinois and would be willing to fix this for me PLEASE get hold of me asap. I'm not interested in taking it to someone who thinks his time is worth $50-$100 per hour.
