My skidsteer was locking up at random times with this code. I would restart and it would unlock. Finally, when I turned the key, M5406 persisted and I was stuck so I ordered a new solenoid part 6676029 (I bought aftermarket part on eBay, much better price). The two solenoids for tilt and lift are right under the seat so you lift the cab and look for the hydraulic manifold and find the two plugs with detachable wires going into the tops. The one higher up is tilt, the one lower down is lift; top for tilt, lower for lift. My code was “Tilt spool lock short to ground“ so I had to replace the top one. I disconnected the wire, snipped off the wire at the top of the old solenoid so I could put on my 1” socket, unscrewed the solenoid and replaced it with the new one, tightening with a box wrench. It works great!
