I rebuilt the Perkins in my 825. New sleeves, pistons, rings, bearings. Had injectors and CAV pump rebuilt. new glow plugs. New filters, fluids all around. Adjusted valves. Bled air (8-10 times so far)at lift pump, water separator, fuel filter, inj. pump, injectors. Have new starter and 1300 amp battery for high cranking speed. have confirmed pump gear timing marks behind front cover. 1) Engine won't hit at all turning over on full throttle. 2)I give it 15 sec. glow plug then 15 sec. crank; nothing. 3) Repeat previous; it might hit one time. 4) Repeat once more; 50% of the time it starts. If not 5th time it starts in 10-15 seconds. When it starts heavy white smoke with acrid fuel smell that burns your eyes. Once started it powers the bobcat smoothly through entire RPM range; no stumbles or hesitation. White smoke decreases when it reaches operating temp but never completely goes away. Have tried playing with pump timing by moving pump flange on block; no discernible change. I know its overfueling(from the smoke) but..........could the rebuilt pump be wrong? Am I missing something simple? This is a great running engine ONCE it starts. No air/fuel leaks that we can find(we have paper towels down covering the floor of the engine compartment looking for drips) but it acts like no fuel on startup then switches over to spewing unburnt fuel. Thanks for your thoughts.
