Gehl V330 AUX HYD LOUD SQUEAL

Just installed an Armstrong Grapple BGR72-11, it makes a loud squeal on the left side by the rigid aux hydraulic lines when i open and close grapple...it opens slow and closes slow. Do i have to adjust a flow valve or can it have the wrong couplers? I appreciate if someone can help?

do you have another piece of equipment that you can hook up to see if the squeal stops? Grapple cylinders do not move much fluid so a restriction to make this squeal is I think unlikely (but possible). Does the grapple use two cylinders and possibly not plumbed the same way so they are working against each other? I guess you could always to rule things out by using pipe or hose between the in and out to the grapple aux. and listen for said squeal. and as for the fittings if you are using the standard bobcat style you should be ok.

Thanks for the reply, not quite sure if the problem lies with the rake grapple... but looking closer at the grapple it has a sticker that reads "tractor loader use only", reached out to my dealer and i was sold the wrong type model for and not for a skid steer. They are making it right and have ordered the correct model so i will see how that one works out. I did use my other attachment and no sound or squeal noted, it was the Danuser Intimidator attachement which is low hydraulic volume attachment. I will see what the outcome is, maybe just the wrong attachment causing my problem. will update next week with results.

I am not for sure but the operating pressures could be very different, I do not think tractors operate above around 2000 psi. and there flows are much less too. so a restriction would be there in that hydro system of that piece of equipment.

Well did receive the new grapple, swapped it out and after initial leak (poor mfg. assembly) it all seemed to work OK, but the loud squeal returned... if I lightly engage the AUX control and manage the flow slowly no squeal and operates normal, but trying to balance the flow just doesn't seem right. My other attachment (Danuser Intimidator) doesn't make any squeal and functions awesome. the grapple operates normal and has plenty of pressure just too annoying of a squeal. I will have to do more investigating. The Gehl V330 23.5 GPM standard flow @ 3200 psi which is where I'm connected to.

Well did receive the new grapple, swapped it out and after initial leak (poor mfg. assembly) it all seemed to work OK, but the loud squeal returned... if I lightly engage the AUX control and manage the flow slowly no squeal and operates normal, but trying to balance the flow just doesn't seem right. My other attachment (Danuser Intimidator) doesn't make any squeal and functions awesome. the grapple operates normal and has plenty of pressure just too annoying of a squeal. Contacted MFG today and he has informed the operating pressure 3200 psi and 23.5 GPM is too much, I will have to increase the safety restrictor on the flat face couplers. I will look into this this weekend.

I removed the restriction union, it was an union with a small port maybe 7/64 inch hole. With it off,it work with no sound but the grapple was fast and appeared dangerous, i could control the flow through the switch, but i figure my boys would not respect it as much. I opted to drill the port on the union to 5/32, it worked but had the squeal sound, picked it up to approx 3/16 and now its perfect, no squeal and does not slam shut and opens w/ good speed. thank you for all your help, I learned something and never realized some unions have restriction ports.
