Bought this L778 low hour matching and not beat up. On the second day, I started the machine and the hydraulic pump blew apart. I removed and installed a new hydraulic pump. Now nothing works. It drives fine, but bucket or boom won't lift. Solenoid valve by passed still no action. Took new pump out and took back to firm which purchased, tested pump and pump works fine. Took pressure relief out of spool to check if stuck open. It's fine. Took control valve out and removed spools, everything sparkling clean. Ready to have New Holland dealer come get. Totally frustrated. I've spent countless hours going over everything. Studied the service parts catalog. Not sure I want to be a skid steer owner.

The only thing i can think of is the shaft that drives the pump could have broken? I know thebobcat style have a shaft that goes from the motor, to the drive pumps then to the hydraulic pump. If the pump was to blow up, it can break the shaft or coupler between the drive pumps and the main hydraulic pump.
Could that be the issue?

Tazza, I replaced the shaft and bearings in the gearbox. It's going to be heading to the dealer. If I find out it's the pump, loaderpartssource is going to get an ear full. I took it back, took them a whole day to look at it and then charged me $52.50 because there was nothing wrong.

Question. Is the seat and seat belt safety switches plugged in? Just a thought.

What about if you cracked a line from the pump and started it up? see if you get fluid out the fitting? If so, it means the pump is working, but i guess it could be a safety interlock locking you out of the system.

I talked with the New Holland dealer today. My skidder is on the mend. The pump I got from another site was bad. I found an OEM pump and it fixed the problem. Can't wait for the bill, and can't wait to take this " direct replacement" pump back. I tried several times to tell them it was their pump, but they said no.

Sorry to hear this has been a headache for you. I'm with Loader Parts Source. I occasionally spend some time on here trying to help out the repair community. Not as much as I'd like to, but as time permits. It is always our intent to make people's repairs fast, easy, and fair regardless if we sell product or not. I recall discussing the problem with your skidsteer and checking this pump out for you. Based on my 25 years on hands on experience with skidsteer hydraulics, both the conditions you described and the inspection of the pump showed another issue. These things always make sense once all the information is available, and I look forward to learning the rest of the facts. It would be helpful if you got as much information as possible while you are at your dealer. Did they fix anything else? Did the currently working pump work immediately after installation or not? This may help protect you if the dealer replaced our pump only to find out that wasn't the issue, and then corrected another issue without documenting it. This happens occasionally. The pump you bought from Loader Parts Source is a direct replacement. It is identical to what you will purchase at a New Holland dealer if you where to purchase a new pump. It comes from the same factory and carries the same warranty. I look forward learning the root cause of the problem you are having. This is how we learn and offer better advice to the next person with these symptoms.

Ljbshop, Let me tell you I suspected the pump was bad when I brought it back the first time, then to be charged $52.50 for "warranty work" and told there was nothing wrong with the pump, that's when I called Topeka New Holland to come pick up my machine. I knew I needed professional help because all I got was a ******** story from LPS. Topeka New Holland gave me the upmost professional service. I was down there shortly after the pump was replaced, and yes the used OEM pump worked right out the gate. They did not fix anything else. What is frustrating is the run around I get from LPS. I finally got credit for the pump and for the $52.50 this came only after several phone calls, and only after I was going to contact the credit card company. I'm still out over nearly $3400 for this repair. $1500 to Topeka New Holland because LPS was certainly not going to listen to me this was a bad pump, second it cost me over an additional $1500 in lost production for the use of my machine. I'm waiting to hear from Levi for additional reimbursement for the cost of this repair. It's been 2 weeks now. I will state this, the place I bought the OEM pump from reimbursed me for the cost of a failed oil seal on the pump and labor from Topeka New Holland, this was all done with 1 phone call, not several and not having to show up in person to get action. The root cause for my frustration is LPS. I've put on over 10 hrs operation on my machine since getting it back from Topeka New Holland and it's working just fine.

I had a very productive conversation with LPS. Levi is very sorry for my frustration and loss of production for the use of my machine. New quality controls have been put in place to avoid such a situation that I've been through. I have received a very nice compensation for my frustration. I will do business with LPS again. Thank you Levi for have such a pleasant conversation with me to resolve my issues. Respectfully submitted, David, Niles, MI
