I had a local machine shop rebuild a Case 580L dipper/arm cylinder as I could not get the gland nut off because of rust , they welded a wrench to the gland nut , heated it and broke it lose , after putting cylinder back on machine it made 1 cycle and locked up solid , I loosened the fittings and tried to move the cylinder by traveling back and forth with the bucket stuck in the dirt and there was no moving it , I took off the hoses going to the cylinder and on the base end /extend the hose was stuck on the fitting , after a lot of pulling this is what I found ---------

-----------I called them and asked what kind of rags they use and they said they had a box of cut up white tee shirts , I told them I got one that you lost

That is too funny! At least you know they were trying to clean it.
We all hate making mistakes, just hope there are no more pieces floating in your system...

There is more to the story that I didn't have time to relate this morning , when unscrewing the fitting from the base I knew there was pressure on it and was really careful , I had been pulling on it trying to get the rag out the cylinder thru the threaded hole and had half the rag out and thought all the pressure had bleed out , well it wasn't and I got a bath from my head to my waist in hydraulic oil , good thing I had glasses on cause they were full of oil , I threw my hat away cause it was drenched ------------I think I have all the pieces out as the machine ran all day today without any problems , there is no way that rag is coming out that fitting by pulling on it , I was lucky to have had another fitting with me , I was thinking of running a drill bit thru each way could clean it out , but will keep it as a conversation piece -----hydraulics is a powerful thing

I sure hope you gave the shop that did the work a few choice words. But then again, they gave you the cylinder back with a free rag.

I didn't get mad at them , I laughed about it , if I would have had to take that cylinder off again I would have been PO'ed ---------------I figure they owe me one ----------it was a messed up job from the start , two cylinder to do both frozen up on this hurricane flood water survivor , and one cylinder is a big one , the regular machine shop who specializes in cylinders and hydraulics was on vaction for a week , so I took it to the guys that specialize in fabrication and machine work on Friday and the other crew got back Monday and it took 4 days to get them back any way and it rained on me putting it back together late on a Friday evening and when it locked up I was thinking another trip to an isolated far away place , so getting it going was great , getting sprayed with oil wasn't nice

Nothing like an oil bath...... It doesnt take much air being trapped under pressure to spray you head to foot in oil. I got sprayed when i blew a 4 in 1 hose, but that was only a little bit as opposed to yours....
Thats a good way of looking at it, they got the work done for you and fast! especially when it was so hard to get apart or you would have done it your self.
