I have recently acquired a early 1970's Ford 340 skid steer/ compact tractor, serial number 2336 with a 4 cylinder Wisconsin engine. I am a vintage car guy and have never used a machine like this, but it has an engine and what the heck, never to old to learn new things. It was loaded without much problem on my car hauler (not by me) and I brought it to my vintage car mechanic, where he proceeded to fix and repair any problems, such as having no brakes, air cleaner not hooked up, bad gas tanks, etc. Surprisingly, not much bad at all. We put a marine 5 gallon gas tank on the cab roof to supply fuel. The machine ran fine. HOWEVER - when my mechanic went to move the 340, it would buck violently up and down at any speed. Very hard just to get it onto my car hauler for transport home. Everything my mechanic did was up to specification using the original operator's and repair manual. I cannot find anyone who knows anything about this machine, and I live in rural northeastern Vermont, where I want to be able to use it this Winter (coming soon!) to remove and push back snow banks on my extensive property. Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for this long post, but I wanted to get out all pertinent information. Thanks for any replies in advance!
