I'm looking at a 2004 cat 287 multi-terrain loader enclosed cab with 200 hours . It has no motor in it. I more than likely will just turn the thing around for a profit. Here are my options. For 4000.00 I can get a 3.8L Kubota in it which I'm told is a better motor then the perkins 3034t that are cat branded that came in it but if I do this it will need some slight modification such as exhaust and radiator line mods to make it work. I can also get the perkins / cat 3034t motor that came in them that has a bent rod that I can rebuild and drop in it to keep it OEM. I personally think that the Kubota would be a better motor to put in it. There are those people that I would be selling to that would not want it without OEM in it. This leads me to my other option which is just to flip it as is and let the new owner decide if they want to drop a 3.8L Kubota or the perkins 3034T back in it. I think the best way to sell it is to sell it as is and let the new owner decide how they want it fixed and what motor to put in it. . How do you determine a fair price when you sell a machine like this or is it just best to put it on ebay and see where it goes? SHipping it would have to even be a better question.

From my experiences with the Perkins in the Cats , I'd would go that route as I have seen 2 with bent rods myself , and another 2 that ran away and blew up with turbo failures that dumped engine oil into the running engine and kept it going till it ran out of oil , I believe that same motor was used in the Positracks and I seen quite a few of them that didn't hold up to the forestry mulcher business , that motor seems to be one of the unforgiven ones , that if you or it screws up once it's all over , the Kubotas are hard to kill -------If I were trying to get rid of it I think I'd first try and part it out , I think it's worth a lot more as parts than like it is

Yes fishfiles that is what I'm hearing just hard to imagine parting out a track loader with 200 hours on it and I really do not want to get into taking it apart. I would almost rather just sell the whole thing for the price the undercarriage is worth and not fool with the rest. Needless to say I guess I will play it by ear just cursious to see how others estimate the price.

I guess I'm figuring the worse case scenario I will drop that Kubota in it for 4000.00 and have a killer machine as it seems the only complain on them is that perkins motor if you do not take real good care of it and watch every blip on the guages.

Hate to keep posting but there i do not see a way to edit the post. Fishfiles do you know anything about the 3044c DIT motor that comes in later models of Cat loaders such as the 287c. I found one I'm considering and it does not seem that people are unhappy with this motor like they were witht he Perkins 3034T. I read one unofficial statement that said the 3044c was made by Mitsubishi and the things I read so far it seems people are happy with it. Know anything on this one or if it would work in that 2004 287?
