I'd posted this on the Deere section, but no response yet...Hey Guys, I have a 260, Series 2 skid steer ( Bought new) , 1,000 hours, which has developed a quirky issue. Sometimes , the water temp indicator will climb , rather quickly, to the red zone & shut down the engine. Most of the time, if I catch it climbing, I can stop , rev the engine to full throttle, & the indicator will fall, as quick as it climbed, back in the mid normal range. I have checked water level, which is fine. I am thinking maybe a sticking thermostat , or faulty temp sensor ? What do you guys think ? If I need to check with a laser thermometer, what would a normal operating temp be ? Thank you all in advance

yeah a laser thermo would help you about 180F should be ok . and I think it would be the thermostat not the sensor. just a guess though. If you had the info. you could use a VOM and see what ohm reading at what temp. is normal for the sensor. to see if it is at fault. laser should be easier.

Thanks for the reply..I have a thermostat ordered. We'll see how that goes..I will post my findings once I receive the parts.
