drain & refill of coolant on 843

Since I had no idea of when the last time the coolant was changed, I decided to drain it and refill. I opened the drain in the engine and un-did the hose in the overflow tank and drained everything. The manual I have says 22 QTs for the cooling system. I added about 13 via the radiator and it was full. Added 2 more to the overflow tank. Started it and ran it for maybe 5 minutes and shut it down, hoping to get some of the air from the system. I added another 2 QTs today via the radiator and I am thinking it filled up the overflow tank more than it was. I did hear gurgling in the radiator as I added more coolant to the radiator. Is the overflow connected the same way it is on a car, that the hose goes to the top of the radiator where the cap is? I am still not at 22 QTs.
