Hello everyone,

I have used Cat Construction Equipment for many years. Would like to know what other members of the community have said about your experiences with the company. Skid steers, excavators, and other machines all seem to be built on a solid reputation regarding durability and performance.

What do you think are the standout features of Cat Construction Equipment? How do they compare to other brands in terms of reliability, ease of maintenance, and overall performance on the job? I'd love to hear your thoughts on which models or specific machines have been your go-to for tough jobs and what you like most about them.

Looking forward to your input!

My CAT experience is with the 226D skid steers. Coming from older Case machines. The CAT was ok, probably about as good as any in the comparable market, but I became convinced that CAT did not "walk on water" as some would have me believe.

One of the dumbest things I ran into was that the programming for the ground drives was flawed. If one set up a figure 8 test course, the machine would drive through it faster in the CAT ISO control pattern than it would in the H pattern. There is no reason on earth it should be that way unless there was a flaw in software or CAT was outright being an a22hole to users that prefer the H pattern. We complained about, CAT said they would get it fixed, it was never fixed.

The controls are fly by wire and getting fine motion control is hit an miss. If there is any flaw anywhere from the control potentiometers to the valve solenoids, fine movement control gets jerky.

Battery placement is horrible on those machines.

And whoever thought it was a clever idea to place a bank of hydraulic valves right above the DPF needs to be trapped in a burning skid steer cab.
