My 742B is having fuel problems, and is dead on a slope about 500 ft from the shop. Can I disable the hydro drive so I can pull the machine back to the shop with a tractor?
A 742 doesn't have an electric brake, but you don't want to let the hydraulics free on that on a slope, it will get away from you.probably fuel pickup tube rotted and fell off in the tank. any way of fixing it in place? i don't think they roll without a big mess and a lot of work. sometimes if its a fuel pickup tube you can fill the tank up a much as it will take and get it to start again
Probably the easiest is to strap a temporary gas can to the roof, run a hose to the engine, fire it up and drive it home.A 742 doesn't have an electric brake, but you don't want to let the hydraulics free on that on a slope, it will get away from you.
Are you getting fuel to the carb? Check the easy parts first, but if that fails, the safest way is to drag it somewhere flat to have a better look.
You could use the tractor to hold back the unit and lower it down the hill that way. Just have someone in the Bobcat and have them hold the levers forward as if the engine was running. It will allow the unit to roll. Go slow. Once at the bottom you can pull it the same way. Good luck.Probably the easiest is to strap a temporary gas can to the roof, run a hose to the engine, fire it up and drive it home.
Thanks for the feedback. The short answer to my question if the hydro drive can be disabled is 'no'. The suggestion to check the easy parts first is the guiding principle of repairing old machinery. I replaced the fuel filter and that didn't help. In the course of working in the engine compartment, I broke the ground wire to the fuel solenoid. I replaced the solenoid, and it now runs fine. I think there was only one or two filaments of the ground wire still holding. Thanks again. You could use the tractor to hold back the unit and lower it down the hill that way.
