Hello everyone, just recently while pushing snow with my 1994 Case 1840 the headlights went dimm, warning lights "Alternator" and "Battery low" lit up along with the buzzer warning. I shut the lights, all warnings cleared and when I turned the lights back on again, everything died, including the diesel engine. After that there was no power to the panel or light and of course - the starter was completely dead. Upon inspection I found out an inline fuse under the seat melted completely and the wire was connected on the starter to the heavy positive cable from the battery. Being further away from the house, I figured out I could start the diesel engine by jumping +12 to the starting solenoid right on the starter (the battery power and solenoid contact are only about an inch apart and diesel engine has no spark plugs or ignition). after shorting the two contacts, the solenoid clicked in and the started was turning the engine but it would not run. I tried repeatedly in short intervals three times but the engine would not even try to run so there must be something else what needs el power for the engine to run. I am wondering what it could be, the fuel pump is mechanical, the starter was turning the engine no problem. After that I cut out the burned out leftover from the original fuse and connected instead a 30 Amp in line breaker from power window from my blazer. Now everything was OK and the engine started right away on the 1st try but I am still wondering what it is on Case 1840 what prevents the diesel engine to start up without power to the panel even while the the starter is turning the engine. Anyone has any idea what could it be? Thanks.
