I know it needs to be replaced, just curious why it doesn't leak?

most likely it doesn't leak because the crack is not deep enough, depending the type and make up of hose, there could be a few layers below the crack still ion good shape
not all hoses are made the same, way, some have multi layers some just one layer, all depends on design of each hose
some are designed to be more abrasive proof, and have different skins on them more or less, and layers of it!(rubber metal rubber metal and so on) that doesn't mean the hose is 100% good yet,
as pressures in a hose can cause a blow out in weaken sections from cuts and or rub thru area's

, this one doesn't look critical, but if you have the means to replace, i
it will not be a bad idea to do so! safety first! as they say

as its never fun when a hose blows on its own while in use! and can be deadly even !
and from my luck, 99% of the time when one does blow, its never ina good location or weather to be replacing, so, its always better to replace earlier then needed at a time and place you can pick, rather than when it just blows in a cold hard to get to location, HAHA!

Thanks for the feedback! I don't use it that much, and I haven't had it for long, but I'll keep an eye on it and add it to my list lol!

Hydrualic hoses are made kind of like a steel belted tire, they normaly have a wire braded around a inner tube and rubber coating over the steel wire, I have seen equipment whit large chuncks of missing outer rubber and the wire braiding exposed, that said the wire is no longer protected from moisture and is prone to earily failure, cracks in the outer coating will also lead to early failure due to moisture intrusion. I to susgest you replace at you earliest convenience, that way you don't end up coating the srounding area with oil spray.

also keep in mind that when a hose breaks or ruptures, it can spray you with HOT fluid, and pending where you get sprayed(face eyes or??)
is why it can be dangerous, as they are under very high pressure, pending how a leak forms, it can come out in a stream with extreme pressure causing you harm, not to mention,a s stated above, covering you./and or machine is hot hydraulic fluid/oil!

its never fun when a hose ruptures period,
and if your machine is in a place where replacing hose is much harder its going to cost a lot more to have someone replace, techs ain't cheap to start with either,, making one work in mud, or needing special equipment to access a machine can again get very costly
,

As they all said above. If it is possible to replace it do it. This hose is most likey a steel braded hose and will go at some point. The steel brade under it protects the inner tube as one said. Depending on the use and pressure of this hose which some time you can read on the hose sides and if the hose is Hyd. Oil and it blows while using it. It can cause serious injuries. Again as it was mentioned. If this hose sees alot of use under pressure it is not good for you to wait. However, I have seen them last when scraped to the metal a long time. It's not taking chances. I have seen the results on all types of equipment. Not a pretty site. So the choice is yours but ................
